HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have extended the contract of starting LT Duane Brown. Terms of the contract extension were not disclosed.

“We are thrilled to have solidified our offensive line with this extension for Duane,” said Texans Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Rick Smith. “We believe Duane is an outstanding young left tackle who has the determination, commitment and ability to develop into one of the NFL’s top performers. It’s also an exciting day for our organization. We’ve laid the foundation for sustained success and this is an important step in building on that and toward a championship.”

Brown garnered second-team All-Pro recognition and was named to the PFW/PFWA All-AFC Team following the 2011 season. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound Brown tied for the fewest sacks allowed by any starting left tackle in the AFC with two and was not flagged for a holding penalty the entire season. Led by Brown, Houston’s offensive line paved the way for 11 100-yard rushing performances and ranked second in the NFL with a franchise-record 2,448 yards rushing (153.0 per game).

Brown has started all 60 games he has appeared in at left tackle since the Texans selected him with the 26th overall pick out of Virginia Tech in the 2008 NFL Draft. Houston has ranked in the top four in total offense and produced a 1,000-yard rusher in three out of Brown’s first four seasons with the franchise.
