Is DeAndre Hopkins done for the season?

Posted Dec 28, 2017

DeAndre Hopkins could miss the Texans final game of the 2017 regular season.

For the first time in his prolific five-year NFL career, DeAndre Hopkins could miss a game.

“We’ll have to kind of see where it is on Saturday and then Sunday before the game,” head coach Bill O’Brien said. “You know what I mean? But, look, if you don’t have Hop (DeAndre Hopkins), obviously you’re missing some production there, but other guys have to step up. Again, I would say that’ll be a decision made more toward game time.”

Hopkins, who did not practice on Wednesday and Thursday, is listed on the injury report with a calf issue. After a Pro Bowl season leading the NFL with 13 touchdown catches, the Texans are deciding whether or not to shut down Hopkins for the final game at Indianapolis.

“We’re kind of working with him on some different things and probably won’t know right up until game time,” O'Brien said.

Hopkins was limited in practice last week, but still started the Texans 34-6 loss to Pittsburgh, hauling in a fourth-quarter touchdown catch. Hopkins has started 79 consecutive games since Houston drafted him in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the second-longest active streak among NFL wide receivers (Demaryius Thomas, 95). In those 79 games, Hopkins has also recorded at least one catch for the longest active streak of games with a reception.

The Texans will face the Indianapolis Colts to close out their 2017 regular season on the road. Kickoff is set for noon CT on CBS and SportsRadio 610.
