J.J. Watt: "Very, very excited" for road ahead

Posted Jan 1, 2018

Defensive end J.J. Watt described how his knee injury rehab is progressing.

J.J. Watt was upbeat and positive on Monday morning, even though he has months of rehab still ahead in his comeback from a knee injury.

The defensive end spoke with the media during the locker room cleanout, and gave an update on his tibial plateau fracture.

"I’m great," Watt said. "I’m doing really well. Very pleased with the progress."

On October 8, Watt left during the first quarter of the loss at home to the Chiefs. Just four games and change into the 2017 season, his year was finished on the field. Watt described what happened next.

"You can either sulk, you can whine, you can complain or you can move forward and you can have optimism and you can move forward with excitement," Watt said. "And, that’s what I’m doing. I’m very excited about the future. Obviously, have been injured the last two years. Disappointed by it, but not going to let it define who I am or what I’m about. Very, very excited coming out and looking forward to getting back to being even better than I was before.”

Watt wasn't sure whether or not he'd be back on the field for OTAs in May.

"I’d like to, but I also know that I’m not going to push it," Watt said. "If I can, I can. If I can’t, I can’t. My goal is to come back for training camp and be ready to go. Hopefully. We’ll see.”

Watt will continue his rehab process at NRG Stadium, and the Texans will gather together as a team again in mid-April for offseason conditioning.
