J.J. Watt limited in practice due to left elbow

Defensive end J.J. Watt didn't participate in contact drills Sunday morning because of his left elbow.

Defensive end J.J. Watt was limited in practice on Sunday morning because of his left elbow. Watt didn’t take part in contact drills, but did participate in other portions of work with his teammates.

“We’re trying to give my elbow a little bit of a rest here,” Watt said. “That’s all it is.”

A year ago during training camp Watt dislocated the elbow, but played the entire season with a black brace on it. He reiterated today that he’d wear the brace again in both practice and games throughout the 2013 season.

Head coach Gary Kubiak was asked about the 2012 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and said that limiting Watt was mainly a precautionary move.

“He’s just got a sore elbow,” Kubiak said. “So we kept him out of contact. But the problem with that was everything was contact today. He did individual (drills) and that was it.”
