Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for December, the second time he has won the award this season.

Watt led the NFL in sacks (six) and forced fumbles (four) in December. He also had 27 tackles and three passes defensed. He had a career-high 10 tackles and three sacks against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15, his seventh multi-sack game of the season. In the regular season finale at Indianapolis, Watt recorded his 16th pass defensed of the season to establish an NFL record for a defensive lineman.

Watt finished the season with 20.5 sacks, most in the NFL and tied for the sixth-most in season in NFL history. He is the only player in NFL history with at least 15 sacks and 15 passes defensed in a season.

the frontrunner for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, Watt is the first Texans player to win multiple player of the month honors in the same season. The 23-year-old lineman was named AFC Defensive Player of the Month in September after recording 6.5 sacks and helping the Texans to a 4-0 record.
