Jadeveon Clowney, Nick Martin out vs. 49ers

Posted Aug 12, 2016

Jadeveon Clowney and Nick Martin did not travel to Santa Clara for the Texans-49ers joint practice and preseason opener.

Jadeveon Clowney and Nick Martin did not travel to Santa Clara for the Texans-49ers joint practice and will miss the preseason opener.

"I’m not concerned," head coach Bill O'Brien said Friday. "Neither one of these things are life-threatening injuries so I think they’ll be fine and ready to play next week."

Both players missed this week’s training camp practices in Houston. The outside linebacker is dealing with knee soreness while Martin, the rookie center, has a back issue. O’Brien felt it was better for both players to remain in Houston.

“Nothing serious but I felt like it was something where let’s give him (Clowney) a few days, be with our trainers back in Houston and be ready to go for next week when we get back and New Orleans comes to town and get some good practice sessions in there." O’Brien said.

Martin, the Texans second-round draft pick, had impressed in camp and was getting a fair share of reps with the starters in the first week.

“Wanted to leave him (Martin) home too, not sit on a plane for a few hours and be able to stay in Houston and rehab,” O’Brien said.

The Texans open the 2016 preseason against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. Kickoff is set for  Sunday at 6 p.m. CT. and will be broadcast on ABC-13 and SportsRadio 610.
