Jadeveon Clowney limited in first day of camp

The Texans No. 1 overall draft pick, who underwent sports hernia surgery in June, was limited in drills during the Texans first day of training camp.

Jadeveon Clowney made his return to the practice field on Saturday. The Texans No. 1 overall draft pick, who underwent sports hernia surgery in June, was limited in drills during the Texans first day of training camp.

“He’s practicing and he’s rehabbing,” head coach Bill O’Brien said after practice. “We’re staying with the rehab protocol, which allows him to practice a little bit. We just stick with that and he’ll be fine.”

Clowney spent the past month in Houston, rehabbing and studying his playbook. While he physically isn’t quite 100 percent, he does feel good about the strides he made in learning his new position and with the playbook since he first arrived in May.

“I’m a lot better than what I was,” Clowney said. “I know a lot of the playbook already. Coach said we looked good so we just got to keep pushing and keep getting better.”

The team will practice with full pads on Monday, but O’Brien doesn’t want to rush Clowney’s return.

“We’ll see where we’re at when we get to that day,” O’Brien said.
