LG Wade Smith's knee injury getting re-evaluated

Posted Aug 12, 2013

Pro Bowler Wade Smith injured his knee last week, and the Texans are now re-evaluating it, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

Pro Bowler Wade Smith has missed the last week of practice with a knee injury, and is now getting re-evaluated.

“Obviously, he banged knees, had his knee swell up on him, had a big bone bruise,” head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday morning. “Hasn’t responded the last few days the way we wanted it. We’re re-evaluating him, having some other people look at it today.”

Kubiak also said he might have an update about Smith’s knee following Monday afternoon’s practice.

Smith signed with the Texans during the 2010 offseason and along with left tackle Duane Brown and center Chris Myers has been a constant on the left side of the line for the last three seasons. He played in the Pro Bowl in January, and collided with linebacker Brooks Reed last week during a practice.

Second-year offensive lineman Ben Jones started at left guard Friday night at Minnesota in place of Smith. Jones started at right guard for the majority of last season as a rookie, and was a center during his college career at Georgia. Kubiak elaborated on Smith and his knee injury.

“We were expecting him back in a few days, but it just didn’t happen,” Kubiak said. I’m okay until I hear what’s next, but obviously there’s another step for us to take. Got to find out what’s going on here.”
