Lestar Jean sidelined by meniscus issue

Wide receiver Lestar Jean will miss at least one game because of a meniscus injury suffered in the Texans’ Week 3 victory at Denver on Sunday.

Jean, a second-year pro from Florida Atlantic, had a career-long 46-yard catch against the Broncos. He will have arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday morning.

“I would say he would definitely be out this week, but we think it’ll be a brief return here,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Monday. “Hopefully a couple weeks.”

Jean has been part of a four-wide receiver rotation with Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter and rookie Keshawn Martin. Rookie DeVier Posey moves up the depth chart in his absence.

Posey, a third-round draft pick from Ohio State, has been inactive for all three games this season.

“He’s had two good weeks of practice,” Kubiak said. “He was actually our scout team player of the week last week or the first week. I feel good about him. He’s a guy we’ll probably put behind Kevin and let Keshawn work behind Andre since Keshawn has worked both spots.

“It’s his time. He’s worked hard to get to where he’s at, plus he can help (special teams coordinator) Joe (Marciano), too. I think he can help Joe on special teams.”

Backup safety Quintin Demps had thumb surgery on Monday after getting injured against the Broncos. It sounds like he will not miss any time.

“I have not talked to him since he’s got out, but he is expected to be fine,” Kubiak said. “He may have to play with a cast. He did play the second half with a cast yesterday.”

Quarterback Matt Schaub practiced without any issues on Monday after taking an illegal blow to the head from Broncos linebacker Joe Mays.

“Matt is fine,” Kubiak said. “He took his normal Monday, worked out with the team and threw a little bit.”
