Matt Schaub has lower leg injury, might play at K.C.

Posted Oct 14, 2013

Matt Schaub's lower leg injury might not prevent him from playing at Kansas City this Sunday.

Matt Schaub has a lower leg injury and whether or not he'll play at Kansas City will be decided later this week, according to Gary Kubiak. The Texans' head coach said Monday that Schaub was "getting some injections" and going through evaluations.

"Obviously he's very sore, and beat up," Kubiak said. "The leg, ankle, everywhere. So we'll have to see where he's at. We probably got a little bit lucky there."

Schaub went down in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Rams when he was sacked by defensive end Chris Long. He limped off the field, was worked on at the trainer's table and jogged around on the sideline. A few moments later he left the field. Backup T.J. Yates took his place in the game.

Kubiak said Yates and Case Keenum will prepare to face the Chiefs, and that Schaub's availability will depend on what the Texans' medical training staff sees from the quarterback later in the week.

"We're trying to evaluate his health right now," Kubiak said.

Schaub completed 15 of 21 passes for 186 yards, was sacked three times and didn't throw a touchdown or interception.

"I thought he played better yesterday," Kubiak said of Schaub's performance. "He moved the football, moved the team. I thought he was doing things much better yesterday."

Schaub has started every regular season game since Week 1 of the 2012 campaign.
