Matt Schaub leaves Rams' game with leg injury

Posted Oct 13, 2013

Quarterback Matt Schaub left Sunday's contest in the third quarter with an ankle injury.

Quarterback Matt Schaub left the game late in the third quarter with a right leg injury, and did not return. On first-and-ten at the Rams' 23-yard line, Schaub was sacked by defensive end Chris Long for a loss of six. After the game he left for tests, and head coach Gary Kubiak described the injury.

"Matt’s got a little bit of everything on that one leg," Kubiak said. "So we’ll take a look at it."

Schaub walked off the field, was worked on at the trainer's table and even jogged back-and-forth a few times before ultimately heading to the locker room. He completed 15 of 21 passes for 186 yards, without a touchdown or interception. He was sacked three times, but also completed a pass of 19 yards or more to three different receivers on the day.

There was a smattering of cheers when Schaub was on the ground, and a loud cheer when backup T.J. Yates entered the game. Yates and his teammates weren't pleased.

"For all that guy has done for this City and this team, for the fans to be booing him when he is hurt on the ground, straight up disrespectful," Yates said.

Wide receiver Andre Johnson agreed, and was disappointed in the handful of people cheering.

"No class," Johnson said. "It's bad when members of the other team are saying 'That's messed up that they would do something like that.' It just shows no class."
