Matt Schaub speaks about injury

Posted Oct 15, 2013

Matt Schaub discusses the latest regarding his injury from Sunday's game.

Matt Schaub feels fortunate that his injury is not as significant as it felt or sounded.

“I thought it was a lot worse based on how it happened and the popping that I heard,” Schaub said. “It popped and then it must have come out and come back into place.”

The starting quarterback was injured in the third quarter of the Texans’ 38-13 loss to the Rams and did not return. He was 15-of-21 for 186 yards and a passer rating of 98.5 before being replaced by backup T.J. Yates.

On Monday, he received injections to help aid his recovery.

“I just got some lower leg, ankle, and foot things,” Schaub said. “My foot got rolled up on pretty good there. My ankle got rolled upon the sack by Chris Long pretty good and just had a round of treatment today. I got evaluated by the doctors.”

Schaub says he is doing everything he can to be ready for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

"I am day and night working on things, getting treatment, doing things at the house, in the training room early, making our trainers get up in the middle of the night to come in so I can get a little extra," Schaub said. "I’m going to do that because that’s where we are at as a football team and that’s the way that I’m built so that’s the way I’m going to approach it."

According to head coach Gary Kubiak, Schaub will be an “end of the week” decision to start Sunday’s game at Kansas City. In the meantime, backup quarterbacks Yates and Case Keenum will increase their workload in practice and may be called upon to start if Schaub is not ready to go.
