Nick Novak "unbelievable" in win over Colts

Posted Dec 11, 2016

Nick Novak was 5-for-5 on field goal tries in Sunday's win at Indianapolis.

The Texans offense found the end zone once on Sunday in Indianapolis.

Five other times, they turned to Nick Novak, who nailed every field goal attempt on the afternoon in the 22-17 win.

“Unbelievable,” head coach Bill O’Brien said of Novak’s performance. “Just told him in the locker room that he came up big for us.”

Novak split the uprights in every quarter Sunday, including twice in the final 15 minutes. He was good from 21, 52, 24, 41 and 34 yards on the day.

“Gotta give all the credit to the guys up front,” Novak said. “Blocking, (long snapper Jon) Weeks, (holder Shane Lechler) Lech. We do a lot of work during the week to come through on Sundays. Great preparation last week. Never too high. Never too low. Just excited for the next opportunity. The next challenge.”

On kickoffs, Novak blasted five touchbacks. The other two that were returned only went for an average of 16 yards.

“I’m not sure that we can kick too many field goals and beat the Colts, but give credit to our defense and give credit to Nick Novak,” O’Brien said. “He did a nice job.”

Novak leads the Texans in scoring with 103 points, and has connected on 28-of-33 field goal tries. He’s a perfect 19-for-19 on all attempts from 39 yards or less.
