No time off for Danieal Manning

Posted Dec 31, 2013

The 2013 season may be over, but the work for starting safety Danieal Manning has only just begun.

The 2013 season may be over, but the work for starting safety Danieal Manning has only just begun. After his knee surgery in October, Manning plans to stay in Houston this offseason and ready himself for 2014.

Manning wants to be back to 100-percent by OTAs.

“That’s my goal, or to be ready before then,” Manning said Monday. “I think I will.”

Manning had surgery in October for a tibial plateau fracture in his right knee after suffering an injury in the third quarter against St. Louis on October 13. Manning is currently in the eighth week of his rehab program, working on strengthening his knee.

"I’m healed up where I can actually move and do my rehab,” Manning said. “I’m like three weeks ahead of that. That’s the good thing about that. Other than that, I can’t really run like I want to or they let me.”

On Monday while players cleaned out their lockers, Manning reflected what comes next for him with his injury and the expected coaching changes following a disappointing 2-14 season. As an eight-year veteran, the Corsicana native said he would love to finish his career in Houston.

“I’m just trying to get healthy, make sure I’m able to get back and compete," Manning said. "From there we know how it is as far as business and all that. I hope I get my leg back to ready to get back out there and compete.”

Manning finished the 2013 season with 35 tackles (31 solo), three passes defensed, and one sack through six games.
