O’Brien focused on Watson, offensive philosophy

Posted Feb 28, 2018

O’Brien hopes to revamp the Texans offense even more in 2018 with Watson’s playmaking ability.

Through a seven-game stretch with quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Texans averaged over 34 points per game. Watson, who took over the starting role in Week 2, stepped in as a rookie with Bill O’Brien quickly adjusting the offense to fit the rookie’s style of play.

O’Brien hopes to adapt the Texans offense even more in 2018 with Watson’s playmaking ability.

“We’ve got over on offense with Deshaun, what do are we going to do with him moving forward, that offensive philosophy,” O’Brien said on Texans Radio at the NFL Combine.

The Texans 4-12 finish last year was primarily due to season-ending injuries to starters like J.J. Watt, Whitney Mercilus and even Watson. In addition to offensive changes, O’Brien is also looking to revamp the playbook and make changes in all three phases this offseason.

“We’re still in the process of that from a coaching standpoint, schematics standpoint, on both sides of the ball and on special teams,” O’Brien said.
