Quick Hits: Garrett Graham

Posted Oct 16, 2013

Learn a little bit more about Texans TE Garrett Graham in the 'Quick Hits' Q&A.

You’re a Wisconsin Badger along with Owen Daniels and J.J. Watt. As a Boilermaker myself, I have to know what makes you Badgers think you’re so special?  “We love brats. I don’t know, we try to make everybody feel inferior in the Big Ten. We work hard. That’s a tough question.”

You and T.J. Yates have some sort of prank war going on. Can you talk about that? “I was gonna fill the back of T.J.’s truck with a bunch of those balls you see in Wal-Mart stuffed in those big crates, but he caught me. He was looking out his window, somehow. So, it’s kind of gone back and forth. He’s wrapped my car in wrapping paper. I guess I’ve got to get him back soon. I started it, but he finished it. He finished it pretty good. He ended up putting them back in my car. It’s been a long, ongoing process but I’ll have to get him back soon.”

Your touchdown celebration vs. Tennessee was the ‘releasing of the doves.’ What’s the story behind that? “There is a story behind it, but it’s not very appropriate.”

Then let’s not go there. Who has your favorite touchdown dance in the NFL? “I like Victor Cruz from the Giants; he does the cha-cha. It’s pretty funny, original. Now they play the music for him when he scores to make it even better.”

Can you cha-cha? “Uh, not really. I’ve never cha-cha’d.”

Owen Daniels has a pretty unique celebration, too. “Owen’s always changing it up. Last year it was turn up, now he’s stirring it up. Hopefully we’ll see more stirring it up towards the end of the season.”

You’re from Brick Township, New Jersey. Is that the quintessential “Jersey Shore” fist pumping kind of town we Texans picture when we think of NJ? “No, not at all, actually. That’s more of where Brian Cushing is from. He’s north Jersey, I’m more south Jersey. It’s not really like that at all. It’s got a small town feel, coastal town. A lot of those people where Brian lives come down in the summer and rent out places down where I live. That’s actually where they shot the show, so a lot of people think that, but it’s not like that at all.”

Speaking of Cushing, he admitted to being a fan of the tanning booth. What about you? “I don’t tan, no. But I understand that he’s doing it because a lot of people in New Jersey do do it. Guys, included. I heard he had one in his house, by the way. I don’t know if that’s true or not.”

What kinds of music do you like? “I listen to all types of music. I’ve gotten into country a little more in the last three or four years when I got to Wisconsin. But I like a little bit of everything. I saw Zac Brown Band here during the Rodeo.”

Do you have any musical talent? “I don’t, no. I’m not very musical, can’t dance. But I can golf.”

I heard you’re into the Houston restaurant scene. “Yeah, I try a new one every couple weeks, my wife and I. We actually just went to Del Frisco’s Grille this past weekend which was awesome. We had cheesesteak egg rolls which I recommend. They were amazing. Brenner’s on the Bayou steakhouse, awesome, kind of hidden away. I actually proposed to my wife there, so it’s a special place.”

Your wife went to Wisconsin as well. Do you have any good date stories? “One of our first dates-- well not really a date, just studying-- she deleted one of my papers. It was a 15-page paper and she accidentally deleted it. So that was an experience. I wrote it all again, it was bad. But I let it slide.”

Lastly, if you had the privilege of waking up as T.J. Yates one morning, how would you spend your day? “I would probably go to the driving range because he is so horrible at golf. He can barely hit the ball. He can barely break a hundred. So, I’d work on my golf game.”
