RB Cierre Wood rumbles in win over Cowboys

Posted Aug 29, 2013

Running back Cierre Wood capped off the preseason with over 100 yards rushing in the win at Dallas.

Cierre Wood capped off a productive preseason with his finest performance in August. The undrafted rookie from Notre Dame carried the ball 19 times for a game-high 107 yards in the Texans' 24-6 victory over the Cowboys.

“I was just trying to show everybody what I can do," Wood said. "I know my abilities. I know my talents."

Wood also caught a trio of passes for 29 yards, and the 22 total touches were a stark difference compared to the previous two contests, when he finished with a combined seven rushes and receptions.

"The last couple games, I didn’t get to show that much," Wood said. "My philosophy is when I go in there, I want to do something to catch everyone’s attention. This game was no different.”

On the Texans' opening possession, Wood peeled off a 41-yard burst up the left sideline to set up the offense at the 6-yard line of Dallas.

“I believe I can play this game with the best of them," Wood said. "I just need my chance. These games are put here in front of me to showcase my talents to world, not just this team but the other 31 teams out there."

Wood is battling with fellow undrafted rookie Dennis Johnson for a spot on the roster. He said after the win that he was "not worried about" the roster cuts that will come in the next few days.
