Randy Bullock nails game-winner, gets a game ball

Posted Sep 10, 2013

Kicker Randy Bullock split the uprights on a 41-yard field goal as time expired, and the Texans beat the Chargers 31-28.

In his first regular season NFL game, Randy Bullock got a game ball.

Not a bad way to start a career.

The second-year kicker drilled a 41-yard field goal as time expired, and the Texans escaped from San Diego with a 31-28 triumph. For his last-second heroics, head coach Gary Kubiak awarded Bullock with the game ball.

“It feels good,” Bullock said. “I missed one a little bit earlier in the game, so it was important that I got back out there and do my job.”

Bullock was perfect on all four point after tries, and drove four of his five kickoffs out for touchbacks. But the missed 51-yard attempt in the second quarter stuck in his craw, until the end of regulation.

“I was pretty frustrated with the first half,” Bullock said. “I missed that one.”

Bullock was drafted in the fifth round in 2012, but injured his groin last August and spent his rookie season on injured reserve. The Texas A&M-ex came through to win the game, and was quick to deflect all praise to his teammates.

“Our team showed the kind of heart that they have,” Bullock said. “We made some great plays on offense and defense to put me in that position. It might have been the last three points on the board but the fight that they had was very impressive.”
