Report: Bill O'Brien "overwhelming favorite" for job

Posted Dec 28, 2013

According to an ESPN report, Penn State's Bill O'Brien is now the "overwhelming favorite" for the Texans' head coaching job.

According to a report from Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Texans and Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien have met and he’s now the “overwhelming favorite” for the head coaching job.

Per team policy, the Texans don’t comment on personnel moves until they’ve been made official.

O’Brien’s coached the Nittany Lions for the past two seasons and compiled a 15-9 record. Prior to that, he spent 2007 to 2011 with the New England Patriots, serving as the team’s offensive coordinator in the final season there.

The ESPN report also said O’Brien and the Texans met “this week after Christmas at his home in Cape Cod”.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle and Mark Berman of KRIV/FOX-26 both tweeted a statement from McNair on Saturday evening which read: "The process continues. We have other interviews scheudled next week. It isn't over."

The Texans have also reportedly interviewed former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith.
