Ryan Griffin: “I’m ready to get the season started”

Posted Mar 4, 2014

Ryan Griffin found common ground with his new coaches and is excited about the upcoming season.

Tight end Ryan Griffin is ready to get back to work.

“I’m excited about this upcoming season,” Griffin said in an interview with Texans Radio. “I’m ready to get the season started. It’s a completely different building in here and it’s just got a different feel to it. It’s got a nice switch-up to it and I’m ready to win some games.”

Many of the new coaches on the Texans staff have ties to the Northeast, either through Penn State or the New England Patriots. The New Hampshire native found common ground with the new coaching staff, especially tight ends coach John Perry.

“It’s kind of nice, a feel from home,” Griffin said. “Coach Perry, my positional coach, coached at Merrimack for a while, played at UNH, so very familiar with him and just his background where he comes from.”

Perry also spent time at New Hampshire as the associate head coach and quarterbacks coach (2007), and receivers coach and recruiting coordinator (1997-1998).

Despite a disappointing 2-14 finish, Griffin saw increased playing time with due to injuries to starters Owen Daniels and Garrett Graham and started eight games. Averaging 12.8 yards per catch, Griffin finished the season with 19 catches for 244 yards and one touchdown.
