Teddy Bridgewater talks #1 pick, Texans

Posted Jan 30, 2014

Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is the latest player to express his desire to be the No. 1 draft pick.

Players have no qualms about expressing their desire to be selected first-overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. First, it was South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney and now Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

In an interview with Louisville radio station WHBE-AM, Bridgewater was asked if his goal was to be the No. 1 pick. His response was an honest one.

“Oh yes,” Bridgewater said. “No doubt. That's my dream right now, and I'm just trying to make it come true."

The Texans hold the first pick in this year's draft and could be a potential landing spot for Bridgewater. Louisville's former head coach, Charlie Strong, made the move to Austin this month after being offered the University of Texas head coaching position. If selected by the Texans, Bridgewater could be just a few hours from the coach that has fully endorsed him as the first-overall pick.

“That would be cool to be reunited with Coach Strong but with this process, anything is possible,” Bridgewater said.

For now, Bridgewater is preparing for the Combine and the pre-draft evaluations. He has been working with former Heisman winnning NFL quarterback Chris Weinke at his facility, IMG Academy, in Florida. Bridgewater said he’s already seen improvement in his mechanics and has increased throwing power by using his legs. The goal of being No. 1 is in his reach but Bridgewater is still striving to get better.

“I just feel that I’m very close, but playing this game you always have room for improvement and areas that you have to improve in,” Bridgewater said. “Each day I’m out here, I’m just working to perfect my craft.”
