Texans, Kroger raise $20k for Komen

Posted Oct 18, 2012

The Houston Texans and Kroger partnered up to tackle breast cancer and raised a total of $20,000.

The Houston Texans and Kroger partnered up to tackle breast cancer by asking fans to make monetary donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation online from Oct. 1-12. Each day during this time span, HoustonTexans.com posted videos of cancer survivors’ stories, which highlighted the strength and courage it takes to fight the disease, while reminding us of the importance of continuing to support the battle against breast cancer.

One lucky fan who donated received a phone call on Friday informing him that he was the winner of two tickets to the sold out Texans vs. Packers Pink Ribbon Day Game. Spectators, Houston Texans Cheerleaders and players were decked out in all things pink. Pink “Texans Care” cards were placed on all 71,500 seats in the stadium, and breast cancer survivors participated in the flag-holding ceremony during pregame ceremonies.

The Texans and Kroger auctioned off three signed pink Texans items during the contest, including a J.J. Watt autographed collage, a Breast Cancer Awareness collage of star players in a custom Texans frame, and James Casey autographed  Breast Cancer Awareness cleats.  Between the online fundraiser and proceeds from the auction, the Texans raised $10,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Kroger will match the money that was raised, amounting to $20,000 contributed from the organizations.
