Outlook
When Khalil Mack was a senior in high school, he had a lone offer to play Division IA football. Four years later, Mack has not only cemented his status as the top linebacker prospect in this year's draft, but also put the finishing touches on one of the most impressive college careers in recent memory.

Mack was the 2013 winner of the Jack Lambert Award, presented annually by The Touchdown Club of Columbus to college football's top linebacker. It was well deserved, as the Fort Pierce, Florida, native had a monster senior season. Mack's 19 tackles for loss was a top 11 mark in all of the NCAA last season, and he hit the 100 total tackles plateau for the first time in his career. The linebacker also had double digits sacks en route to being named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year. The Buffalo and NCAA history books won't be the same, as he set school records for sacks (28.5) and FBS marks for tackles for loss (75) and forced fumbles (16).

Mack's blend of size (6-3, 248) and speed (4.6 40-yard dash) make him an ideal fit as either an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense or as a rush end in a 4-3. The talented senior even dropped back in coverage for the Bulls, picking off three passes this season. During the NFL Network's television coverage of the scouting combine, analyst Mike Mayock said he'd take Mack first overall if he had the choice. According to this year's prospect rankings, Mayock's statement doesn't appear to be far off. Mack is no lower than seventh according to the rankings we've featured during our draft profile series, and sits third on both Mel Kiper's 'Big Board' and on the Scouts, Inc., listings.

During his recent pro day, Mack further made his case to be the first defensive player taken in this year's draft. In front of a bevy of NFL personnel, he was clocked at an unofficial 4.54 40-yard dash time, a tenth faster than his mark at the combine.
