HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have traded QB Matt Schaub to the Oakland Raiders for a sixth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, it was announced today.

“On behalf of the Houston Texans organization, I’d like to thank Matt Schaub for the contributions he has made to this franchise on and off the field,” Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Rick Smith said. “Matt and his wife, Laurie, have given so much back to the Houston community through their GR8 Hope Foundation and have really served as role models here in so many ways. We wish the entire Schaub Family well in the future.”|

Schaub (6-5, 235), who was acquired by the Texans through a trade with the Atlanta Falcons on March 22, 2007, leaves Houston as the franchise’s all-time leading passer, a two-time Pro Bowler (following the 2009 and 2012 seasons) and the team’s 2012 Ed Block Courage Award winner. In 10 seasons with Atlanta and Houston, Schaub has started 90 of the 128 games he has played in and has completed 2,035 of 3,181 pass attempts for 24,254 yards, 130 touchdowns, 84 interceptions and an 89.8 passer rating.

A third-round pick of Atlanta in 2004, the former University of Virginia standout compiled a 46-42 record as a starter for the Texans in the regular season. Schaub also completed 63 of 89 passes for 605 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and an 87.5 passer rating in two playoff games for the Texans. He led the NFL with 4,770 yards passing in 2009 and etched his name in the NFL record book with the second-most yards ever in a game, throwing for 527 yards in an overtime win against Jacksonville on Nov. 18, 2012.
