The Texans drafted Texas Tech wide receiver Keke Coutee in the fourth round with the 103rd overall selection.
"This is like the most perfect thing that ever happened to me," Coutee. "To grow up an hour from Houston, just to be able to play for the Texans, you know, that's just truly a blessing. I'm just really excited to be out there."
Coutee (5-10, 181), a Lufkin native, led the Red Raiders with 1,429 receiving yards and scored 10 touchdowns in 2017. As a returner, Coutee recorded 315 kickoff return yards with a touchdown on 10 returns, ending his final season at Texas Tech with 1,759 all-purpose yards.
"Coutee is a natural slot receiver, possesses reliable hands, and should flourish in the slot with DeAndre (Hopkins) and Will (Fuller V) on the outside with an additional inside deep element to his game," Texans football analyst John Harris said.
Coutee, ranked fourth nationally in receiving yards, will work under another former Texas Tech wide receiver. Wes Welker, who scored eight touchdowns returning punts and is currently still tied for the NCAA record, is in his second year as an offensive and special teams assistant on the the Texans coaching staff.
