Texans offensive line wins Madden Protectors Award

The Texans' offensive line has been recognized with the Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award for its Week 4 performance against the Tennessee Titans.


The Texans' offensive line has been recognized with the Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award for its Week 4 performance against the Tennessee Titans.

In a 38-14 victory, the offensive line allowed zero sacks and three quarterback hits on Matt Schaub. The Texans scored 30 or more points for the third time in four games as they improved to 4-0.

“When you start a season undefeated, you rely a lot on your offensive line and that is what the Texans are doing,” said Hall of Fame coach John Madden, who selects one group each week as the NFL's best offensive line.

The Texans' O-line rotation consists of left tackle Duane Brown, left guard Wade Smith, Pro Bowl center Chris Myers, right guards Antoine Caldwell and Ben Jones and right tackles Derek Newton and Ryan Harris. John Benton is in his seventh season as Texans offensive line coach. Jim Ryan is the Texans' assistant offensive line coach.

The Texans rank second in the NFL in scoring offense (31.5 points per game) and ninth in rushing (136.5 yards per game). They rank second in the NFL in time of possession at 35:32 per game.
