Texans organization wins number of awards in 2017

The Texans were recognized for a number of awards for their contributions to business, sports, community and leadership in 2017.

The Houston Texans may have wrapped up their 2017 campaign with a 4-12 record, but the year also had its share of honors for the organization. The Texans were recognized for a number of awards for their contributions to business, sports, community and leadership.

-Texans president Jamey Rootes was named Houston Business Journal’s 2016 Business Person of the Year based on his accomplishments as the 2016 Chair of the Greater Houston Partnership and Super Bowl 51 Committee.

-Houston Business Journal recognized Jennifer Davenport, vice president of marketing and community development, and David Fletcher, general manager of Lone Star Sports & Entertainment, as two of their 2017 40 Under 40. The annual list celebrates 40 individuals under the age of 40 who have proven themselves as key industry leaders within their company and in the community.

-The Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) named the Texans Public Relations department as a 2017 Pete Rozelle Award co-winner. The Rozelle Award is given to the NFL club public relations staff that consistently strives for excellence in its dealings and relationships with the media. 

-PR News selected Amy Palcic as one of its 2017 class of Top Women in PR, an annual list comprised of women who have made bold advances in the communications field, managing crises, developing brand messages, protecting and building brand reputations, and creating content for digital platforms.

-The Texans Digital Media team won a Shortie, an award that nationally recognizes the best of social media. #TexansCare Volunteer Day earned a trophy in the Sports category after chronicling seven different volunteer opportunities over five hours with Texans players, ambassadors, cheerleaders, employees and fans across the city.

-The Houston Business Journal named the Texans as the No. 1 Most Philanthropic Business among midsized companies.

-The Houston Chronicle recognized the Texans organization as one of Houston’s Top Workplaces of 2017 for a fifth consecutive year. The selection of Top Workplaces is based on feedback from the employee survey results.

Other award finalists:
-The #SomosTexans campaign was a Shortie finalist as trending hashtag to reach international fans when the Houston Texans played the Oakland Raiders in Mexico City in the first Monday Night Football game played outside of the United States.

-The Houston Texans Foundation and Community Relations were also among the top 16 chosen as a finalist for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Sports Award, an honor recognizing professional teams, individuals and organizations that strengthen and serve communities through sport. The Texans Foundation was selected out of a pool of 130 applicants across all professional sports from around the United States and Canada.
