Texans sign S Troy Nolan, cut QB John Beck

Posted Oct 3, 2012

The Texans signed safety Troy Nolan to the 53-man roster on Wednesday, and cut quarterback John Beck.

Safety Troy Nolan is back with the Texans, re-signing with the club on Wednesday. To make space for his addition, the team cut quarterback John Beck.

Nolan was drafted by the Texans in the 7th round of the 2009 NFL Draft, but missed his rookie season after injuring a wrist in training camp. He contributed in 2010 and 2011 on defense and special teams, and was one of the team's final cuts on August 31.

The next day, he signed with the Miami Dolphins and wound up playing against the Texans in the season opener at Reliant Stadium. Miami released Nolan on September 25th.

Safety Quintin Demps broke his left forearm on Sunday against Tennessee, and fellow safety Shiloh Keo suffered a shoulder injury in the game as well.

"We felt we better get Troy back in the fold," general manager Rick Smith said. "He understands the system, he knows the scheme and he's made plays for us before. We felt fortunate to get him back in the fold."

The subtraction of Beck means the Texans have 53 active players on their roster. Beck joined the club on May 9, and was inactive through the first four games of the 2012 season.
