The Texans signed rookie defensive end David Hunter to the active roster from their practice squad on Tuesday.

Hunter, an undrafted rookie from the University of Houston, was born in Houston and played at Waller High School. He takes the roster spot of Tim Jamison, the Texans' top backup defensive end who was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a torn right Achilles.

Hunter (6-2, 303) has been named the Texans’ scout team defensive player of the week three out of six times this season. He is the second Texans practice squad player to earn a promotion to the active roster this season along with guard Cody White, who was promoted last week.

Jamison, a fourth-year pro out of Michigan, suffered a season-ending injury on Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers. He had three tackles, one sack and one pass defensed in six games this season.

Rookie defensive end Jared Crick, a fourth-round draft pick from Nebraska, could take Jamison's place as a rotational player behind J.J. Watt and Antonio Smith. Nose tackle Earl Mitchell also can play end.
