Urgency emphasized by Texans on Wednesday

Posted Sep 25, 2013

Wednesday was the best practice of the season, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. The Texans showed a true sense of urgency at the Houston Methodist Training Center.

After Sunday’s disappointing loss, there was no hangover Wednesday afternoon for the Texans.

“I just told them I thought it was our best practice of the year,” head coach Gary Kubiak said. “I thought we had a really good sense of urgency and speed.”

Quarterback Matt Schaub was emphatic in his backing of Kubiak’s words.

“No doubt about it,” Schaub said. “The sense of urgency in this building, in this locker room, is incredible. We had a great practice today. Guys were into what we were doing, in tune with the game plan and flying around making plays.”

After taking a 6-0 lead during the first half Sunday at Baltimore, the Texans were outscored 30-3. The Ravens triumphed by a 30-9 margin, but there was no listlessness on the field Wednesday at the Houston Methodist Training Center.

“We were flying around out there,” defensive end J.J. Watt said. “Guys were very locked in. Everybody was energetic, flying around having a good time and a really solid practice.”

Left tackle Duane Brown agreed, and said the team knows it has a mighty challenge with Seattle coming to Reliant Stadium for Week 4.

“Everyone has to be accountable,” Brown said. “I think that was prevalent today. Everyone went about their business, moving at a fast pace. We’re looking forward to this weekend.”
