Watt hoping for another drama-filled Charity Classic

Posted Feb 10, 2014

J.J. Watt doesn’t know how his 2014 Charity Classic softball game will top last year’s event.

J.J. Watt doesn’t know how his 2014 J.J. Watt Charity Classic softball game will top last year’s event.

“The one thing I’m worried about with this year is that we’re not going to be able to create as much on-the-field drama as we did because last year’s game was literally, unbelievable,” Watt said in an interview with SportsRadio 610. “I mean, I think defense was down 16-6 at one point and we ended up coming back and winning it. It was literally difficult for me to believe and I put the event on. It was crazy but the fans made it such a great event. We could not have asked for it to be any better.”

Shiloh Keo, whom Watt described as ‘Bugs Bunny’ with his multi-faceted contribution last year, hit a walk-off home run to win the game for the defense.

“I have no worries whatsoever about our odds in this game as long as we have Shiloh Keo playing out there for us,” Watt said. “I mean, the guy can hit, he can field. He can pitch it, catch it. He definitely brought us back in that game.”

This year’s game sold out just hours after tickets went on sale Saturday, February 8. Throwing out the first pitch will be Marcus Luttrell, former Navy SEAL whose real-life story is portrayed in the movie, “Lone Survivor.”

“We’re really, really excited to have him come out and throw the first pitch,” Watt said.

In the second-annual charity game, Texans players on offense will face defensive players in a seven-inning softball match. The sold-out event will take place Friday, May 2, 2014 at Constellation Field in Sugar Land and will raise money for the J.J. Watt Foundation.
