10 Questions with J.J. Watt

Posted Aug 9, 2011

Rookie defensive end J.J. Watt talks about training camp, the city of Houston and his favorite training camp food in this interview for HoustonTexans.com.

Getting to know the 2011 Texans, 10 questions at a time.

Rookie defensive end J.J. Watt was the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin. A native of Pewaukee, Wisc., Watt (6-6, 290) is already penciled in as the Texans' starting left defensive end.

Watt answered 10 questions for HoustonTexans.com after training camp practice on Tuesday morning.

1. How is training camp going for you so far?

“I feel good. The weather is the toughest part, but I feel confident with the mental aspect of the game and getting in my playbook a lot. I’m getting used to the physical part, and I feel pretty comfortable.”

2. Which teammates have you been hanging out with the most?

“For the most part, just the defensive linemen. I’ve been hanging out a lot with the defensive linemen, trying to get used to just being in Houston. They’re teaching me the ropes of the town.”

3. What’s your favorite thing about Houston so far?

“I think the fans have been great. It’s been truly great to see all the fan support they have here.”

4. What’s your favorite food to eat during training camp?

“There’s a lot. Man, we’ve got a lot of good food down here. Actually, the guys, we went to Pappadeaux yesterday, and that was a good spot.”

5. What’s your favorite TV show?

“’King of Queens.’ I like Kevin James; he’s a funny guy. Arthur Spooner is a pretty hilarious character as well.”

6. A perfect day for me is…

“My perfect day is gameday. Get up in the morning, get your mind right and then go out there and perform for your fans and for the team and win. You gotta win.”

7. What was your first car?

“I had a 1997 Ford Explorer. Red. I loved it. It’s still back at my house in Pewaukee.”

8. Do you have any pets?

“Back home, I have two dogs, Titan and Brooke, but I’m going to try to get two dogs for the season down here.”

9. What are you listening to on your iPod?

“Right now, I’ve got a lot of different stuff. I’ve got Eminem. I have Jason Aldean. I have Rascal Flatts. I have Jay-Z. I’ve got everything.”

10. What’s the proudest moment of your football career?

“The proudest moment of my football career was when my team won the Big Ten Championship at Wisconsin. We beat Northwestern to go the Rose Bowl.”
