Quotes: Bradie James on signing with Texans

Posted Apr 13, 2012

After signing with the Texans as an unrestricted free agent on Friday, inside linebacker Bradie James spoke with Nick Scurfield in a 1-on-1 interview for Texans TV.

After signing with the Texans as an unrestricted free agent on Friday, inside linebacker Bradie James spoke with HoustonTexans.com's Nick Scurfield in a 1-on-1 interview for Texans TV.

James, 31, discussed his decision to coem to Houston, his familiarity with defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and his excitement about being a part of the Texans’ defense.

Here’s a transcript of the interview (watch the video HERE):

How does it feel to join the Texans?
“It feels great. I couldn’t ask for a better place, better situation, coaching staff, family, fans, everything. It’s just awesome for me. “

You played under Wade Phillips and Reggie Herring for several years in Dallas. How excited are you to be back with them, and how attractive was that in bringing you here?
“It was a no-brainer when Houston reached out to me. Wade tried to not get too involved because he wanted me to make my own decision, but I knew from the moment that they called that this is where I’d be and I’d rather play here. So, it’s good to be here. I’m looking forward to a great season. I’m coming in just trying to do what I do, help the guys and take us to the next level.”

What have they said to you about your role here?
“Just come in the other spot and play and help Cush [Brian Cushing}, help the defense as much as possible and do what I usually do and just make some plays and have fun.”

This Texans defense ranked No. 2 in the league last season. You already tweeted about the “#BullsOnParade” – what do you think about being a part of this group?
“It’s a lot of high-motor guys that’s on this defense, and you can tell they’re very self-motivated. The cohesion is here, and these guys get after it. Just watching film and being in Texas, we got a chance to keep up with each other. Having that 3-4 experience, you just keep up with other [teams] who’s playing the 3-4 and see if we can steal something, because it’s a copy-cat league. They just stuck out all the time. Cush played well. [Danieal] Manning played well. Antonio Smith played well. All these guys. J.J. [Watt] is just – he has a high motor. The two outside ‘backers [Connor Barwin and Brooks Reed]. Coming from Dallas, we had D-Ware [DeMarcus Ware] and [Anthony] Spencer. We have two outside ‘backers that are just relentless. This whole defense, if you don’t do what you’re supposed to do and if you’re not flying around, you will stick out like a sore thumb.”

Being from Monroe, La., and having played at LSU, how nice is it to be a little bit closer to home now?
“It’s good. I’ve been fortunate and blessed to be one state over – been in Texas my whole career right next to Louisiana, so it’s awesome, man. I can’t even describe it, but I’m just looking forward to getting in here and getting in the trenches with everybody and having fun.”
