Texans Mock Draft Machine: Version 3.0

With two weeks until the 2011 NFL Draft, see who N.D. Kalu picks for the Texans after our Mock Draft Machine makes the first 10 picks.

With two weeks to go until the 2011 NFL Draft, we’ve updated our Texans Mock Draft Machine with the most recent projections from 16 mock drafts around the web.

For those of you new to the Mock Machine, here’s the drill: We survey 16 mocks from around the web to project the top-10 picks in the draft. We leave the Texans’ pick at No. 11 up to a different expert each week.

This week, that expert is N.D. Kalu, who played in the NFL for 12 seasons and is now a frequent guest analyst on SportsRadio 610. Kalu played defensive end for the Texans from 2006-08 and currently serves as a Houston Texans Ambassador.

Kalu: “I don’t think this is the best player available, but you have to fill the need as far as getting a pass rusher. Any time you go from a 4-3 to a 3-4, you have to add more pass rushers. This guy, he just gets to the quarterback. He’s a pure pass rusher. I don’t care if you line him up as a 3-4 outside linebacker or as a 4-3 defensive end. With the names that you’ve already taken off the board, I think he is the best pass rusher available.”

Kalu’s pick is more or less in line with the projection of our Mock Machine. There’s no consensus pick for the Texans at No. 11, but Robert Quinn was the most popular choice with four votes out of 16 mocks. Right behind him were Smith and Purdue DE/OLB Ryan Kerrigan with three votes apiece. Prince Amukamara was next with two votes, followed by four players – Jones, Cameron Jordan, J.J. Watt and Muhammed Wilkerson – with one vote apiece.

METHODOLOGY: We polled 16 mock drafts, tabulating how many times a player was picked for each of the top-10 teams in the draft. A player who got the most “votes,” as we’ll call them, at each team was the pick. For the first time in three Mock Machines, there were no instances where a player was the top vote-getter for more than one team, and therefore no tiebreakers that needed to be applied.

All of the mocks used were the author/website’s most current mock as of April 15 at 9 a.m. CT.
