2009 Year In Review
The Texans finished 2009 with four consecutive victories, pushing their final record to a franchise best 9-7. It's the first winning season in the history of the franchise.
With playoff hopes for 2010, the Texans are taking a break before training begins for next season. In the meantime, HoustonTexans.com will break down the performance of each position group during the 2009 campaign and take a look at what's to come next autumn.
Houston Texans Position Groups
Quarterback - Jan. 11
Matt Schaub led the NFL in passing yards and was selected to his first Pro Bowl, guiding the offense to new heights in 2009.

Wide receivers- Jan. 13
For the second straight season, Andre Johnson eclipsed the 1,500 yard mark in receiving, and also led the league in that category. 2009 also saw the emergence of Jacoby Jones, as well as dependable contributions from the rest of the corps.

Tight ends - Jan. 18
Pro Bowler Owen Daniels roared off to a fantastic start, as he led the NFL in receiving yardage at his position. But a Week 8 knee injury put his season on ice, and Joel Dreessen as well as rookie James Casey saw more action because of Daniels' absence.

Running backs - Jan. 20
The ground attack for the Texans scored 13 touchdowns in 2009, and saw contributions from four different ball-carriers. Steve Slaton was the starter for the bulk of the season, while Ryan Moats, Chris Brown and rookie Arian Foster also ran with the first team at differing times.

Offensive line - Jan. 22
Early in the season, the Texans lost starting guards Chester Pitts and Mike Brisiel to injury, but saw tackles Duane Brown and Eric Winston, along with center Chris Myers, start all 16 games. They helped quarterback Matt Schaub lead the NFL in passing yards.

Defensive line - Jan. 23
Mario Williams was selected to another Pro Bowl at defensive end, as he and his linemates spearheaded a defensive turnaround during the final 12 games of the season.

Linebackers - Jan. 24
DeMeco Ryans and Brian Cushing were both selected as Pro Bowlers, and Zac Diles played a solid season at weakside linebacker. Cushing was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, and finished behind Baltimore's Ray Lewis for the total tackles lead.

Cornerbacks - Jan. 25
Dunta Robinson, Jacques Reeves and rookie Glover Quin helped the defense to a strong showing in 2009, providing valuable work in pass defense.

Safeties - Jan. 26
Bernard Pollard signed with the team in late September and made a huge impact the rest of the way. Eugene Wilson at free safety contributed some big plays, and was backed up by young talent in the defensive backfield.

Special teams - Feb. 1
Return man Jacoby Jones was electric bringing back kicks and punts, while Matt Turk and the punt coverage excelled in pinning opponents in their own territory.
