Normally he lets his play speak for itself, but this week three-time Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson will be doing some friendly trash talking with the best in the NFL.
In a revamped 2021 Pro Bowl format, NFL stars will go head-to-head in a series of virtual competitions this week, including a crossover into entertainment with a brand-new "NFL Pro Bowl Verzuz."
Watson is among the participants in the NFL-focused format, which will feature 2021 Pro Bowlers – one NFC and one AFC (in most cases from the same position group) per Verzuz battle – going head to head, showcasing their best highlights each round. Each Verzuz will be about 60 minutes (10 rounds).
Verzuz (pronounced "verses") is a highly-successful online series of music battles developed by producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz that debuted last March during the coronavirus pandemic. The original Verzuz series consists of two music artists going head to head via Instagram Live and social media outlets, to prove that they have the best music catalog. Examples of previous Verzuz battles are DMX vs. Snoop Dogg, Gucci Mane vs. Jeezy, and Patti Labelle vs. Gladys Knight.
"Verzuz partnering with the NFL made sense for us with culture, sports and music being so aligned," Timbaland said via NFL.com.
"NFL Pro Bowl Verzuz" takes place January 26 through 29 at 7 p.m. CT and will be live-streamed across NFL social and digital platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Players go head-to-head in friendly debates of their career highlights in several entertaining categories. Fans will also be able to interact and support their favorite Pro Bowl stars as they showcase their talents and their personalities off the field.
The Pro Bowl: Madden NFL 21 Edition will take place on Sunday, January 31st from 4 pm to 5:30pm CT. The show will be simulcast on NFL social channels and NFLN as well as EA Madden NFL Twitch.
