Houston Texans Co-Founder and Senior Chair Janice McNair to Donate $5 million to Pro-Vision Inc. in Sunnyside Houston

Houston Texans Co-Founder and Senior Chair Janice S. McNair will gift $5 million through The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation to Pro-Vision Inc. located in the Sunnyside Community in Houston at a celebration later today. This gift is among the largest donations given in 2019 to support education, community relations and economic development in the National Football League. In addition to today's donation, the McNairs also gifted $450,000 to support Pro-Vision's Urban Farm and Aquaponics Initiative.

"We are proud to provide Pro-Vision with this financial support to enhance their efforts to create positive change in under-served areas of Houston," remarked McNair. "Before Bob passed, we had the opportunity to tour the facilities at Pro-Vision and visit with their leadership. We were captivated by their mission, their approach and the impact they are having in areas of need within our community. We agreed that this would be a perfect way to continue our work to support the City of Houston and we are blessed to be able to do something significant."

This donation marks the largest gift Pro-Vision has ever received. The funds will be used to build housing for low-income community members as well as assist in building an on-site football field and track facility that will be named after the McNairs. The multi-purpose building that will be unveiled today was value-engineered through the need of three buildings, including high school classrooms, gymnasium and community service offices. The community's urban garden will also be increased by three-times its size, which provides healthy food for the campus, vocational jobs for the community and income by selling the produce to local businesses.

"Pro-Vision is honored to be the recipient of such an impactful contribution from the McNair family," said Roynell Young, Pro-Vision Founder and CEO. "This gift to Pro-Vision is helping to set the foundation for the transformation of the Sunnyside community, as well as enhancing the quality of life for those who live there. I consider it a great responsibility that they have chosen to partner with our organization. The hope is that this investment will positively reach generations who are yet to be born."

Pro-Vision Inc. is an organization that uses a four-component approach in their efforts to dismantle poverty through education, nutrition, character development and housing. The mission is to inspire hope and purpose by improving the lives of young men, women and their families in Houston's under-served neighborhoods through access to academic, emotional and social enrichment opportunities.

"I want to personally thank Mrs. McNair and the McNair Foundation for helping us to fill the gap in the city's need for affordable homes. The Third Ward, which includes Sunnyside, was recently designated a complete community. As we continue to replace housing stock lost during Hurricane Harvey, we are grateful for partnerships that allow us the leverage to create safe and affordable communities where residents can thrive," remarked Sylvester Turner, Mayor of Houston.

Established in 1988, The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation is focused on a different tomorrow. Janice McNair and her late husband Bob have long believed the greatest impact one can leave on the world is a dedicated focus on helping others through their mission, vision and values. Since its establishment, the McNairs have gifted more than $500 million to foundations supporting medicine, the environment, law enforcement, the arts, cultural initiatives and revitalization of neighborhoods.
