Meet the Rookie: OLB Jamir Jones

Meet Texans rookie, outside linebacker Jamir Jones.

-Hometown: Rochester, New York

-6-3, 255 pounds

-As a senior, Jones recorded 26 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, four quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass defensed in 11 games.

-Jones moved up in the rotation when teammate Daelin Hayes suffered a season-ending shoulder injury against Virginia.

-Jones then went on to record a sack in three straight games against Virginia, Bowling Green and Southern California.

-In 2016, Jones appeared in 10 games for the Irish as a true freshman and led Notre Dame with eight kickoff-return tackles. He also finished second on the team with eight special teams tackles.

-Jones' father, Matt, was in the ICU for two weeks due to COVID-19. His father was taken off the ventilator just four days before the NFL Draft.

-Jones played linebacker, tight end, quarterback and safety over his three-year varsity career at Aquinas Institute High School.

-As a junior in 2014, Jones threw for 715 yards in eight games.

-His older brother Jarron played defensive tackle for four seasons at Notre Dame (2012-16). He spent time in the NFL before being selected by the New York Guardians in this year's XFL Draft as an offensive lineman.
