The 2010 Pro Bowl rosters will be announced at 6 p.m. CT today on the NFL Network. We'll be covering the announcement on HoustonTexans.com with updates on which Texans players make it to the NFL's all-star game, which will be played in Miami a week before the Super Bowl this year.
NFL.com senior columnist Vic Carucci put four Texans on his mock Pro Bowl ballot earlier today: quarterback Matt Schaub, wide receiver Andre Johnson, defensive end Mario Williams and linebacker Brian Cushing.
The Texans had a franchise-record three Pro Bowlers after last season: Johnson, Williams and tight end Owen Daniels.
Johnson, the league's leading receiver with 1,504 yards, is regarded as a virtual lock to make the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his career. He led all AFC receivers in fan balloting and had the ninth most votes overall. Fan votes count for 1/3 of the selection process along with votes from NFL players and coaches.
Based on fan voting results, Williams has the next best chance of making it. ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky reported that Williams, who has 8.0 sacks, was second in fan voting among AFC defensive ends.
Can Schaub, the league's leading passer, make it as one of three quarterbacks out of the same conference that boasts Peyton Manning, Phillip Rivers, Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger? Can Cushing, who has an AFC-high 128 tackles along with four interceptions, four sacks and a safety, make it as a rookie? Can middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans, the leader of the Texans' defense who has 116 tackles, oust players such as D.J. Williams and David Harris?
We'll found out in about two-and-a-half hours.
