Texans Care for Texans campaign wins Gold Stevie award

The 2020 Texans Care for Texans presented by Kroger initiative not only proved that Texans do care for Texans, it also won national recognition in the 19th Annual American Business Awards last week.

The Houston Texans campaign set a goal to help feed half a million Houston families last holiday season, earning a first place 2021 Gold Stevie award for in the nonprofit/Charity category.

The Houston Food Bank (HFB), one of the Texans community partners, was tasked with distributing a staggering 1,000,000 pounds of food daily to families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The financial struggles Houstonians faced due the pandemic created a near double demand for food donations. After several meetings with the HFB and better understanding of the magnitude of their needs, the Houston Texans Foundation aimed to create a campaign that would engage the entire Houston community in raising enough funds to donate 500,000 meals to the HFB during the month of November.

The program surpassed its goal and provided an astounding 530,000 meals after a call to action within the community.

The Texans Care for Texans presented by Kroger campaign was even featured during the national broadcast of the Houston Texans at Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game, reaching over 2.3 million viewers across the country. The campaign concluded with a 'Thank You' email to fans who donated and an in-game check presentation to the Houston Food Bank on December 27 during the Texans vs. Bengals game and aired on Texans TV.

Since 2002, the Houston Texans Foundation has donated nearly $3 million to the Houston Food Bank to fight hunger insecurity in the community. The annual Whataburger Hunger Action Month campaign has raised nearly $706,000 in five years. In addition, the Huddle Against Hunger program, presented by Kroger, is a free downloadable curriculum that teachers and parents can use to teach students in elementary through high school empathy, understanding and actions they can take around hunger in their community.
