Dele Harding enters his first season with the Texans in 2022. He joins the Texans after serving as a defensive student assistant for the University of Illinois during the 2020 season.
While working under Head Coach Lovie Smith for the Fighting Illini in 2020, Harding helped mentor LB Jake Hansen, who earned second-team All-Big Ten honors. Hansen led the team with 68 tackles (36 solo) while finishing fifth in the Big Ten in tackles for loss (10) and eighth in forced fumbles (two).
Prior to starting his coaching career, Harding played four seasons (2016-19) as a linebacker at the University of Illinois, serving as a team captain as a junior and senior (2018-19). He appeared in 39 games and totaled 235 tackles (110 solo), 21 tackles for loss, three interceptions and four forced fumbles. As a senior in 2019, Harding was voted the team's defensive MVP and received first-team All-Big Ten honors after ranking second in the nation and first in the Big 10 with 153 tackles (68 solo).
Harding graduated from Illinois in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.
