Tennessee went 9-7 last season to finish second in the AFC South. As a Wild Card, they won on the road at New England and Baltimore before falling in the conference title game to Kansas City.

The last two times (2019, 20111) the Titans beat the Texans in NRG Stadium, were Week 17 affairs when Houston had already clinched the AFC South. The Texans hold a 10-8 advantage over the Titans in games played here in Houston. They won seven straight against Tennessee from 2012-2018.

Head coach Mike Vrabel is in year three with Tennessee, and he's 18-14 overall. Before his move to Nashville, Vrabel was an assistant in Houston from 2014 through 2017. He coached linebackers the first three years, and was the defensive coordinator for the Texans in 2017.

In 2019, the Texans went on the road and beat Tennessee in Week 15, 24-21. Two weeks later, with the division title locked up, Houston rested QB Deshaun Watson, WR DeAndre Hopkins, LT Laremy Tunsil and several other starters. The Titans were victorious, 35-14.

All-time, the Titans lead the series 19-17. The two squads have split the last six, but Houston has won 11 of the last 16 meetings.

Several Titans spent time with the Texans. After nearly a decade in Houston, CB Johnathan Joseph signed with Tennessee this offseason. Center Ben Jones spent 2012-2015 in Houston. Offensive lineman David Quessenberry was drafted by the Texans in 2013 and spent the next five seasons with the team. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2014, and made his NFL debut late in the 2017 season for Houston.

Tim Kelly is the Texans' offensive coordinator. His brother Dennis is in his 9th NFL season, and his fifth with the Titans.
