Breakfast: Xavier Su'a-Filo needs a passport

Posted Feb 17, 2016

Xavier Su'a-Filo talks about his first trip out of the United States and training this offseason.

Xavier Su’a-Filo may be fluent in Spanish, but he’s never had a chance to really practice it.

Until now.

When the Texans announced their upcoming Monday Night Football matchup in Mexico City, Su’a-Filo knew he had a couple of “firsts” to look forward to this year.

“I’m very excited,” Su’a-Filo said on Tuesday’s Texans All Access radio show. “It will actually be my first voyage out of the country. I’ve never been out of the United States, but especially Mexico where I can practice my Spanish and the most important part is to be able to play the Raiders on a Monday night.”

The 6-4, 307-pound offensive lineman learned Spanish during his two-year mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Su’a-Filo took a leave from college during the 2010 and 2011 football seasons, traveling to Alabama, and Florida, where he picked up Spanish.

Now entering his third NFL season, Su’a-Filo is taking advantage of the offseason. He’s enlisted the help of a two-time Pro Bowler at his facility which specializes in the training of offensive linemen.

“Right now I’m in Phoenix training at O-Line Performance with LeCharles Bentley, but I definitely plan on coming back to Houston as well, making sure I’m getting in time over there and to make sure the coaches see me,” Su’a-Filo said.

The Oakland Raiders will host the Texans on Monday, Nov. 21 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
