Jadeveon Clowney "honored" to be a Pro Bowler

Posted Dec 21, 2017

Jadeveon Clowney said he was honored to be named to the Pro Bowl.

Jadeveon Clowney was selected to his second consecutive Pro Bowl this week, and it means a lot to the defensive end/outside linebacker.

"I’m very honored and excited about the Pro Bowl," Clowney said on Thursday. "I want to thank my teammates, coaching staff, training staff, just about everybody in the building that helped me get to this point.”

With nine sacks and 20 tackles for loss this season, he's been a disruptive force for the Texans defense and a headache for opposing offenses. Helping the Texans win a Super Bowl is always the ultimate goal, but getting recognized for his achievements was nice too, according to Clowney.

“I was excited about it," Clowney said. "One of my goals every year (is) to try to get to the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro team. Just one of the goals you set every year and set out to achieve, so I was very excited about it.”

Clowney and receiver DeAndre Hopkins were the Texans selected for the game, and head coach Bill O'Brien wasn't surprised.

“They deserve it," O'Brien said. "Those guys have played well this year. They’ve shown up every week and played very hard, played very productively. To be recognized as one of the best players at your position in the NFL is a big deal. Congratulations to them. It’s a great honor for them.”

Defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel agreed, and was glad to see Clowney get the recognition.

"Well-deserved and happy for him," Vrabel said. "We got to get more of them. We got to get more of those guys. So, that’s the goal, is to get guys coached up that can perform at that level, worthy of postseason recognition.”

Clowney and the Texans host the Steelers on Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. CT inside NRG Stadium.
