The Texans new receivers coach got high praise from one of the game's best.
"He's awesome," Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham, Junior said. "He's a great coach. He'll do a great job down there. I'm happy for him. It's tough to see him go."
Beckham, who's in Honolulu for the 2016 Pro Bowl, has over 2,700 receiving yards in just a pair of NFL seasons. He's already caught 25 touchdowns, and is averaging 102 yards per game.
Ryan was hired by the Texans earlier in January. He was the Giants receivers coach the previous two seasons, as well as from 2010 to 2011. He started on with the New York staff in 2007 as an offensive quality control assistant. In 2012 and 2013 Ryan was the team's quarterback coach. His reputation is a good one, according to Texans Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre
Hopkins.
"I hear he's a great coach," Hopkins said on Friday. "So that's all you can really ask for, coming in. He had Odell Beckham over there. He did a good job with that and the receiving group they had. So I don't expect anything to fall off."
Ryan's range of experience as an offensive coach, not to mention his pair of Super Bowl rings, were also attractive to head coach Bill O'Brien.
"He's coached Eli Manning," O'Brien said earlier this week in Mobile after a Senior Bowl practice. "He's coached Beckham. He's coached Victor Cruz. Great experience. Looking forward to working with him."
Manning, who's taking part in his fourth Pro Bowl at quarterback, termed Ryan as a "very smart guy" and a "hard worker". He expects good things for the Texans.
"I think it will be a great addition to them," Manning said. "I had a great relationship with him."
Ryan's future pupil Hopkins, and former pupils Beckham and Manning are taking part in Sunday's Pro Bowl in Honolulu.
