Ka'imi Fairbairn active in Texans win over Titans

If Ka'imi Fairbairn's leg was tired on Sunday afternoon, it didn't show.

After the Texans' 57-point explosion against the Titans, the second-year kicker laughed when he was asked if his powerful right leg was sore from three field goals, seven extra point tries and 11 kickoffs.

"It was a busy day today," Fairbairn said after the victory. "But the alternative to that is not what I want, so I'm glad I had a lot of work today."

Fairbairn was also quick to credit the offensive line, long snapper Jon Weeks, and punter Shane Lechler, who holds on extra points and field goals, for his success.

It was the second straight week he scored 15 points in a game, and Fairbairn has made all nine of his field goal attempts this season, including a 50-yarder yesterday in the second quarter. Eight of his 11 kickoffs were touchbacks, and on the season, only seven of his 25 kickoffs have been returned.

"He's done a good job," head coach Bill O'Brien said. "He's got a strong leg, he's a calm guy, he's got a good demeanor. The operations' been good between Weeks, Lechler and him. I just want it to continue."

For that to continue, Fairbairn explained what needs to happen.

"Just practice," Fairbairn. "Mentally going through the reps during the week. Keeping my body fresh. Then come game time, just stick to my routine."

Fairbairn and the Texans will practice Wednesday through Friday, and then host the Chiefs on Sunday night at NRG Stadium.
