Week 4
School: Round Rock High School
Years Coaching: 5
How long have you been coaching? Where did your career begin? College\university you attended?
- I have been coaching for over five years, all at Round Rock High School. Coaching has given me the opportunity to mentor student-athletes in sports that I personally played throughout high school, college intramural leagues, and adult leagues. My journey began as a player with a deep love for the game, which eventually evolved into a passion for coaching. I earned my undergraduate degree from Texas State University and later pursued my master's at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Why do you coach?
- Coaching allows me to fulfill my passion for helping others. I believe sports offer invaluable lessons beyond the game itself, shaping young athletes into disciplined, resilient, and confident individuals. Growing up, I had strong, impactful coaches who guided and supported me, molding me into the person I am today. I want to be that same positive force for my players—to help them develop important life skills, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals both on and off the field.
What is the most rewarding\fulfilling part of your job?
- The most fulfilling aspect of coaching is witnessing my student-athletes accomplish the goals they set for themselves. Seeing their growth—both in their sport and in life—is incredibly rewarding. Watching them succeed in high school, pursue higher education or careers, and continue thriving as individuals makes all the hard work worth it. Even more meaningful is when they stay connected after graduation, sharing their life milestones and letting me know that the lessons and experiences we had together made a lasting impact. Knowing I played even a small role in their journey is something I cherish deeply.
In your opinion, what is the significance of the growth of girl's flag football?
- The growth of girls' flag football represents a significant step forward in empowering young women through sports. Flag football is an inclusive and dynamic environment where the girls can develop leadership skills while building confidence. With the rise of the sport, this allows female athletes the opportunity to compete at higher levels and gives them a chance to excel in a sport that was previously less accessible. I am so glad the opportunity is now being offered in high school and I hope Texas will one day sanction the sport.
