Meet Coach Bre'Neka T. O'Bryant | Coach of the Week

WHY I COACH

Bre'Neka T. O'Bryant, Grand Oaks High School

How long have you been coaching? Where did your career begin? What College or university did you attend?

This is my 14th year coaching and I hope I have many more to go. My coaching career began in Huntsville, TX, where I was born and raised. I went back to teaching and coaching once I graduated from college. I attended Blinn in Brenham, Tx, then transferred to the University of Houston at Victoria where I played softball for both schools.

Why do you coach?

I coach because when I was growing up I had a coach who believed in me and didn't give up on me when I was growing up. I coach so that I can make a difference in these athletes' lives. Especially if they just need someone positive in their corner, cheering them on.

Why Flag Football?

Why not flag football. When I was younger, I had to play flag football with the boys and had to prove myself every day. Now these young ladies have a league that is dedicated to just them. Where they get to compete against just girls.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing my athletes accomplish something that they thought was impossible, and feeling good about themselves. Or just seeing them get excited for themselves and the other girls on their team when they do something good.

Why is the growth of a girl's flag football important to you?

The growth of girls flag football is very important, to show these girls that they matter to just not us at their school or program, but they matter to the athletes and organizations giving them the platform to shine and grow!
