Meet Coach Lin Roberts | Coach of the Week

Week 2

School: Alief Taylor High School

Years Coaching: 14

How long have you been coaching? Where did your career begin? College\university you attended?

  • I have been coaching for 14 years. I first started coaching in Dallas, Tx at Berkner High School. I attended Southwestern College in Winfield, KS! Go Builders!!

Why do you coach?

  • I coach sports because it's about so much more than the game. It's about helping athletes grow, not just in skill, but in confidence, character, and resilience. I love being part of that process, watching them push through challenges, support each other, and realize what they're capable of. Sports are a powerful teacher, and as a coach, I get the privilege of guiding that learning on and off the field. I decided to coach girls flag football because of the opportunity to empower young women through one of the sports I love. Football has traditionally been male dominated, so me having the opportunity to help these young ladies break barriers, learn the game, and prove they belong on the field is something special. It's more than just wins; it's about building leaders both on and off the field.

What is the most rewarding\fulfilling part of your job?

  • The most rewarding part about my job is the building of relationships, the laughs, the trust, the grind and knowing that your positive influence helped shape someone's mindset. I am blessed to be able to Pay It Forward.

In your opinion, what is the significance of the growth of girl's flag football?

  • The significance of the growth of the sport represents progress and inclusion. This opens other opportunities for scholarship, leadership opportunities and to be seen. The growth of girls' flag football gives empowerment, equity, and opportunity. That's a movement worth coaching, supporting, and celebrating!
