Meet Coach Patricia Duhart | Coach of the Week

Week 2

School: Waltrip High School

Years Coaching: 7

How long have you been coaching? Where did your career begin? College\university you attended?

  • I have been coaching for 7 years. My coaching journey began with a strong passion for working with young people and fostering their growth both on and off the field. I attended Grambling State University, where I developed leadership skills through various activities, including my time as a member of the Tiger Marching Band. My experiences at Grambling instilled in me a deep sense of discipline and teamwork, which naturally transitioned into coaching.

Why do you coach?

  • I coach because I believe sports, especially flag football, provide a unique opportunity to teach life skills like teamwork, perseverance, and self-discipline. Flag football, in particular, breaks traditional barriers and opens doors for athletes to excel in a sport that emphasizes strategy, agility, and collaboration. I was inspired to coach flag football because I saw how it creates a supportive community where players can challenge stereotypes and build confidence in their abilities. I want to be part of that transformative experience for my players.

What is the most rewarding\fulfilling part of your job?

  • The most rewarding part of coaching is witnessing the growth and confidence my players develop throughout the season. It's incredibly fulfilling to see them take on challenges, push past limits, and achieve goals they once thought were unattainable. Beyond the wins on the field, I find joy in knowing that the lessons they learn through the game will carry over into their lives—helping them navigate challenges, embrace teamwork, and become leaders in their own right.

In your opinion, what is the significance of the growth of girl's flag football?

  • The growth of girl's flag football is a monumental step forward in promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities in sports. It empowers young women to participate in a traditionally male-dominated field, challenging societal norms and fostering a sense of confidence and capability. This growth also highlights the importance of representation—seeing female athletes excel encourages the next generation to dream big and break barriers. Flag football provides a platform for young women to shine, build camaraderie, and showcase their athleticism and determination, paving the way for a more equitable future in sports.
